So I'm trying like no other to clean up and re-tag all my mp3s. I found this one tucked way back in my hard drive. I have no information on this band at all except it is by some European band called Freak Power, and that the album came out in 2000. It has elements from several genres (soul, funk rock). In the end it's a song I dig. I hope you do. You can find it on the album with the same name as the song Turn On, Tune On and Cop Out. You can listen here.
Have been looking for the bonus cd you get free with the cd anybody heard it ?

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm here's something you might or might not know, which might or might not be of interest to you:
no idea when the original song came out BUT back in 94(or was it 95???) it was the score of a levi's ad. picture this if you may:
NYC, big black cab (or wadevayacallit) gorgeous babe at the back, evil taxi driver giving her the 'eye' thru the mirror, song playing in the background. then, all of a sudden babe whips out electric razor (or wadevayacallit)and proceeds to shave (yep, appearances can be deceptive, gorgeous babe is queen). fade out...
i love this song, i remember listening to it in the summer of 94 (or was it 95???) while driving at top speed, 3 speeding tickets i got that summer, not sure it was the song though...

Interesting....I've heard of the band - or actually i recall their name on a comp called "Do Not Adjust Your Set" mixed together by the Bolton Brothers. Track #4 is called "Freak of da Week" by Freakpower which actually is quite good - a bouncing bassline with a hush "It's da freak over the week" vocals over it...I managed to find this at a used CD store but can't find hair or hide of it on Amazon, Ebay or other online resources....typing the UPC code into Google came up with only one entry :

A cache one yes. I recommand the CD if anyone could find it....Death in Vegas, Gavin Friday, Tosca, Sneaker Pimps are on it too (The Sneaker Pimp song is actually sped to 45RPM making Chipmunk vocals...weird ! )
Cheers,
E

love your site. this song got to no.1 on the uk pop charts. but like his previous bands Beats International and the Housemartins, they were pretty poor. as for norman cook as a solo artist. oh dear. (don't mean to be hatin')

Hey Man!
Love your blog, it IS truly funkalicious. I have some info for ya concerning Freakpower: The key figure in this british band is non other than multi-talented DJ-producer-artist Norman Cook, who is nowadays funkin' around as Fatboy Slim.(The great vocalist is Ashley Slater, who has also released a solo albmum a few years back.) All Frewakpower releases are very cool: really funky and entertaining. Well, that's about it, you can find accurate info about the band here: www.discogs.com/artist/Freak+Power
Cheers, keep on funkin'...oh, and a happy new year!!
